A parallel solution adaptive method for radiative heat transfer using a Newton-Krylov approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
The discrete ordinates method (DOM) and finitevolume method (FVM) are used extensively to solve the radiative transfer equation (RTE) in furnaces and combusting mixtures due to their balance between numerical efficiency and accuracy. These methods are typically solved using space-marching techniques since they converge rapidly for constant coefficient spatial discretization schemes and non-scattering media. However, space-marching methods lose their effectiveness when applied to scattering media or are used in combination with high-resolution limited totalvariation-diminishing (TVD) schemes. They are also not well-suited to complex geometries and are not readily implemented within parallel CFD algorithms. A pseudo-time marching algorithm is therefore proposed herein to solve the DOM or FVM equations on multi-block body-fitted meshes using a highly scalable parallel-implicit solution approach in conjunction with high-resolution TVD spatial discretization. Adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) is also employed to properly capture disparate solution scales with a reduced number of grid points. The scheme is assessed in terms of discontinuity-capturing capabilities, spatial and angular solution accuracy, scalability, and serial performance through comparisons to other commonly employed solution techniques. The proposed algorithm is shown to possess excellent parallel scaling characteristics and can be readily applied to problems involving complex geometries.

متن کاملParallel Implicit Solution of Diffusion-limited Radiation Transport
We present simulations of diffusion-limited transport in an initially cold medium of two different materials subjected to an impulsive radiative load, using a Newton-Krylov-Schwarz solver. The spatial discretization employs Galerkin finite elements with linear piecewise continuous basis functions over simplices in 2D and 3D. Temporal integration is via a solution-adaptive implicit Euler method....
متن کاملA Fully Implicit Method for Lattice Boltzmann Equations
Existing approaches for solving the lattice Boltzmann equations with finite difference methods are explicit and semi-implicit; both have certain stability constraints on the time step size. In this work, a fully implicit second-order finite difference scheme is developed. We focus on a parallel, highly scalable, Newton–Krylov–RAS algorithm for the solution of a large sparse nonlinear system of ...
متن کاملNUMERICAL MODELING OF CHARRING MATERIAL ABLATION WITH CONSIDERING CHEMICAL REACTION, MASS TRANSFER AND SURFACE HEAT TRANSFER EFFECTS
Presently there is a little information that relates to heat shield systems. Also this information is not certain in so many cases. The main reason is that accurate calculations for measuring the sacrificing rate of various materials have not been obtained yet. Additionally, the real scale test has two disadvantages: high cost and low flexibility, and for each case we must perform a new test...
